At the start of the coursework when we were given the brief for the primarily exercise; being. Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. I was excited to start, I was also relieved that i was in a group that I got on well with, and I was looking forward to creating the short film. I hoped everything would run smoothly when preparing for it and creating it.
I havn’t had any experience of creating a short film so this exercise would be a learning curve for me. We had an initial idea of a “gangster” theme with two characters, one being a leader/boss, the other being a young woman. The woman enters the room dropping a gun then the two characters exchange dialogue, in the end the leader/boss picks up the gun aiming towards the woman. I was happy with the idea and thought it would be a good place to start for the short film.
We then decided the roles within our group and I was given the role of camerawoman. I was looking forward to do this but i was also a bit nervous as well because I have had had no experience filming before. However I thought it would be fun to do the camera and decide on the framing of the shots and was looking forward to the filming because I had some background knowledge from the work in the beginning of the course looking at technical codes to represent meaning in TV drama.
We then created a storyboard, together looking at the composition and framing of each shot involved in the short film. We also decided where the characters would be and the duration of each shot. We all shared our ideas on each of the shots and overall agreed on how it was done. Then we produced a schedule on what we were planning to do each lesson so we would be organised and know what we are doing each lesson. We had an idea to film in the photography studio C032 at college because I study photography I could book the room and get permission from the teacher easily. Then a provisional date was decided to be at Thursday 28th January because we were all available in the evening at 4.30 - 5.30.
